Press Release: Proofpoint Partners with PGP Corporation
PROOFPOINT ANNOUNCES STRATEGIC PARTNERSHIPS WITH LEADING SECURE MESSAGING VENDORS AUTHENTICA, PGP CORPORATION, POSTX, AND SIGABA
Leading Email Encryption Vendors are First to Participate in Proofpoint's Secure Messaging Certification Program
RSA Conference, San Francisco, CA/February 14, 2005 – Proofpoint, Inc., the leader in large-enterprise messaging security solutions, today announced strategic partnerships with four of the leading secure messaging, enterprise rights management, and encryption vendors-- Authentica, PGP Corporation, PostX Corporation, and Sigaba--whereby Proofpoint and the respective secure messaging vendor will jointly market and promote each other's solutions. Proofpoint also introduced its Secure Messaging Certification Program to ensure full compatibility between secure messaging products and Proofpoint's messaging security solutions. The integration of Proofpoint's enterprise messaging security features with these best-of-breed secure messaging technologies provides customers with a complete solution for email security--delivering anti-spam, anti-virus, content compliance, content security, regulatory compliance, and email encryption features in one highly effective, easy-to-deploy platform.
The Proofpoint Protection Server® software and Proofpoint Messaging Security Gateway™ appliance offer protection from all types of message-borne threats, both inbound and outbound. The company's recently introduced Proofpoint Regulatory Compliance™ and Proofpoint Digital Asset Security™ modules mitigate risks associated specifically with outbound email--helping ensure compliance with privacy and data security regulations (such as HIPAA and Gramm-Leach-Bliley) while keeping confidential documents secure. Deploying Proofpoint in conjunction with best-of-breed secure messaging solutions creates a powerful solution for policy-based email encryption and security.
"Driven in part by government regulations including HIPAA, GLBA, and Sarbanes-Oxley, enterprises increasingly require integrated, policy-based email encryption capabilities as part of an overall email security solution," said Gary Steele, CEO of Proofpoint. "Our partnerships with all of the leading secure messaging vendors give our customers the flexibility of deploying Proofpoint's software- and appliance-based solutions seamlessly integrated with the industry's best secure messaging capabilities. The secure messaging technologies provided by our partners are a natural fit for Proofpoint's unique outbound email compliance and content security products."
Authentica, PGP Corporation, PostX Corporation, and Sigaba are also the first secure messaging vendors to participate in Proofpoint's Secure Messaging Certification Program. Each vendor is working with Proofpoint to certify--through lab testing and onsite customer deployments--that its solutions are fully compatible with the Proofpoint Protection Server software and Proofpoint Messaging Security Gateway appliance. The certification process includes testing for interoperability between Proofpoint and each partner's secure messaging solutions over a wide range of policy and routing use cases--ensuring a rapid and seamless deployment experience for joint customers.
"Combining Authentica's industry leading enterprise rights management solutions with Proofpoint's messaging security solutions delivers significant benefits to our mutual customers," said Norman Meisner, vice president of business development at Authentica. "As corporate policies and regulatory compliance gain heightened importance, we"re enabling large enterprises to automatically identify, secure, control, and audit the flow of confidential content and intellectual property in email and attachments."
"PGP Corporation is pleased to partner with Proofpoint to address the growing customer demand for a comprehensive secure email solution," said Andrew Krick, vice president of marketing for PGP Corporation. "Our joint customers also want a solution that is easy to deploy and is compatible with existing encryption and digital signature standards so that business partners can easily exchange proprietary and confidential information."
"Companies today are looking at email holistically and Proofpoint is well positioned to provide a comprehensive, secure suite of offerings to their customers by combining Proofpoint and PostX technology," said Jon Peppler, senior director of channel partners for PostX. "It's important for PostX to be part of Proofpoint's Secure Message Certification Program as today's enterprises are clearly looking for easy-to-deploy, best-of-breed solutions for both encryption and messaging security."
"Sigaba is pleased to extend its partnership with Proofpoint to address the needs of larger enterprises," said Nancy Chou, senior vice president of marketing for Sigaba. "Addressing security from both the enterprise and end-user perspective, this alliance offers customers both greater control and enhanced flexibility in one unified secure messaging solution."
These solutions create a complete, end-to-end messaging infrastructure that is secure from prying eyes, compliant with all types of privacy and data security regulations and free from spam and viruses. The combination of secure messaging features with Proofpoint's unique machine learning-based content analysis capabilities, centralized policy management framework (the Proofpoint Messaging Security Console™) and powerful content security features enables:
- Easy creation, maintenance and enforcement of enterprise-wide secure messaging policies.
- Flexible, policy-driven encryption of email messages based on message content, attachment content, sender, or recipient.
- The ability for end-users to encrypt messages directly from their desktop, or through keywords at the gateway.
- Compliance with data security and privacy regulations such as HIPAA and GLBA which require protected health information or protected financial information to be transmitted securely.
- Enhanced protection for sensitive and confidential information. The Proofpoint Digital Asset Security™ module enables encryption policies to be applied to messages based on the presence of "classified" contents or attachments.
The end-to-end email encryption capabilities provided by Proofpoint's secure messaging certified partners complement the built-in, gateway-to-gateway secure messaging capabilities of the Proofpoint Protection Server software and Proofpoint Messaging Security Gateway appliance. Proofpoint's native gateway-to-gateway secure messaging features enable the automatic encryption of messages destined for business partners who require a secure communications channel, without the need for senders or recipients to take any action.
- The Proofpoint Messaging Security Gateway appliance supports digital certificates and enables gateway-to-gateway secure transfer and receipt of email using the Transport Layer Security (TLS) standard. To further ensure the security of encrypted messages, the gateway also supports optional authentication of senders and receivers via TLS.
- Forthcoming releases of Proofpoint Protection Server include native support for the Secure Multipurpose Internet Mail Extension (S/MIME) standard.
