Press Release: Mirapoint Partnership

PGP CORPORATION AND MIRAPOINT PARTNER TO ENSURE END-TO-END ENCRYPTION ACROSS THE SECURE MESSAGING INFRASTRUCTURE

Integrated appliance-based email security solution based on centralized policy enforcement to meet regulatory and internal policy requirements

Sunnyvale, CA, and Palo Alto, CA/23 August, 2005 - Mirapoint, the secure messaging experts, today announced it has formed a strategic alliance with PGP Corporation, the global customer standard for enterprise encryption and digital-signature solutions, to offer an appliance-based secure messaging infrastructure that conforms to internal policy and external regulatory requirements.

For enterprises and heavily regulated industries, such as healthcare, financial services and government agencies, the combination of Mirapoint's messaging appliances and PGP Universal's automated encryption and key management architecture allows customers to automatically encrypt, decrypt, digitally sign and verify messages based on a central policy. Organizations are able to ensure compliance with regulatory, business partner and customer security requirements, while protecting their intellectual property with an enterprise-class encryption solution.

"Wide-ranging threats to corporate data and the challenge of regulatory compliance place increasing demands on IT resources. Companies are looking for solutions that work well together to provide security across the messaging infrastructure," said Phillip Dunkelberger, chief executive officer and president for PGP Corporation. "Mirapoint's Message Server and RazorGate appliances provide customers with industry-leading protection against spam, viruses, and external threats while PGP Universal provides automatic email encryption, decryption, digital signatures, and key management. It's a great solution that offers integrated, standards-based, functionality for customers wanting email that is simple, efficient, and secure."

Regulated organizations need to keep sensitive and confidential information from leaking via email and thus creating a violation. Customers will be able to screen email for content that violates internal or regulatory policies. The Mirapoint system will identify sensitive or confidential messages, then PGP Universal will automatically encrypt and securely deliver the message - without requiring the user to do anything different when sending email. The solution operates transparently to end-users.

"By making PGP Universal's automatic email encryption, decryption, digital signatures and key management an integral component of Mirapoint's secure messaging infrastructure, customers can guarantee message encryption from the mail client to the mail store," said Barry Ariko, chief executive officer for Mirapoint. "A secure network needs to go beyond the edge. Policy-based messaging is better delivered through a complete messaging infrastructure, not just a disparate collection point solutions."

According to Osterman Research, approximately 20 percent of employees in a typical organization find frequent use for secure email capabilities and 60 percent are occasional users.

"Secure email is growing in popularity and users are finding more instances where encrypting email makes good business sense," said Michael Osterman, president of Osterman Research. "The combined Mirapoint and PGP solution uses a policy-based approach to secure email - users don"t have to remember to flag a message for encryption. In industries like healthcare and financial services where privacy is not only a regulatory concern but a sticky legal consideration ensuring that the proper messages are encrypted is critical."
