PGP Solutions Help Customers Comply with new Japanese Privacy Act Requiring Protection of Personal Information

Palo Alto, CA/12 December, 2005 – PGP Corporation, a global leader in enterprise data security and encryption solutions, today announced the latest release of its award-winning PGP® Desktop and PGP Universal products localized for Japan-language customers. PGP Desktop 9.0.3, PGP Universal 2.0.3, and PGP® Command Line 9.0.3 respond to Japanese customers" requirements to help ensure pervasive data protection, regulatory compliance, and interoperability with a wide range of network architectures, applications, and messaging standards. Until the release of the new localized products, strong Japanese demand for PGP security has been satisfied with English-language versions of PGP solutions.

"We believe Japan represents one of the most important global markets," said Steve Abbott, vice president of worldwide sales for PGP Corporation. "Like their counterparts in North America and Europe, Japanese businesses now face regulatory requirements to safeguard data in transit and in storage. The April 2005 guidelines for the Japanese Privacy Act have elevated the need to protect personal information as well as awareness of information security in general. Japanese customers have always demanded the highest levels of product quality and technical support. They also insist that security solutions meet industry best practices for eliminating data risks."

PGP Desktop 9.0.3 features a translated Japanese user interface, end-user documentation, and online help. It includes six solutions to protect personal information and individual privacy:

  • PGP Whole Disk Encryption secures an entire drive, including the boot drive
  • PGP Virtual Disk secures files, folders, USB drives, and CDs
  • PGP Mail automatically encrypts and digitally signs email and attachments
  • PGP Secure Messenger protects AOL® Instant Messenger™ (AIM) sessions
  • PGP Zip automatically compresses, encrypts, and archives files
  • PGP Shredder provides permanent and unrecoverable file deletion

The PGP security suite is the most comprehensive in the industry. Featuring PGP Universal 2.0.3 for centralized management and recovery, the suite includes policy-based gateway and end-to-end email security, digital signatures, full disk encryption, virtual disk and file encryption, shredder, Zip, and instant messaging (IM) encryption, plus FTP and batch solutions that can be mixed and matched as needed. All are based on accepted industry standards and proven through long-term use in varied network environments.

"We are dedicated to building strategic relationships that help meet Japanese customers" needs," added Abbott. "In addition to localized products, we have partnered with distributors that have in-country expertise and we have also created a Japanese-language website to better inform our Japanese customers. We look forward to further expanding our presence and infrastructure in Asia-Pacific in 2006 and beyond."
