Press Release: Announcing PGP Universal 2.0 & PGP Desktop 9.0
PGP CORPORATION ANNOUNCES NEW DATA SECURITY PRODUCTS TO MEET REGULATORY COMPLIANCE & INFORMATION PRIVACY NEEDS
Global customer standard for encryption offers the most
significant
product upgrade ever of its broad, integrated suite of desktop
& gateway security products
Palo Alto, CA/09 May, 2005 – PGP Corporation, a global leader in enterprise data security and encryption solutions, today announced a major expansion of its next-generation PGP security suite. For the thousands of global companies using PGP Desktop products, PGP Universal 2.0 now offers automatic, central policy management of all-new PGP® Desktop 9.0 plus expanded enterprise management features. Corporations can simplify business-to-business security with automatic key and policy synchronization - both among PGP Universal 2.0 gateway servers and to the worldwide PGP Desktop and S/MIME community. New PGP Desktop 9.0 features automatic operation so email, instant messaging (IM), whole disk, and file encryption are secure without user interaction or training.
Companies and individuals can mix-and-match PGP solutions to achieve regulatory risk remediation and privacy protection - all using a single, centralized, and automatic key management and recovery infrastructure - including laptop protection, gateway email security, end-to-end email privacy, removable media security, IM encryption, FTP/batch transfer protection, and digital signatures.
"Our mission is solving customer information privacy issues and helping companies comply with a myriad of global regulatory requirements," said Phillip Dunkelberger, president and CEO of PGP Corporation. "The challenge is to also lower customer total cost of ownership, ensure standards compliance, and minimize the impact on users, support, and infrastructure. To accomplish this, we spoke to hundreds of major customers to understand their complex corporate, regulatory, and partner mandates for information security. PGP engineers have translated this feedback into a comprehensive security solution: the new PGP Universal 2.0 and PGP Desktop 9.0 products."
New PGP Product Features & Benefits
- New PGP Whole Disk encryption - protects the increasingly vulnerable confidential information stored on corporate and personal laptops and makes data unusable except by authorized individuals. Secures entire laptop, desktop, and removable media, including USB drives and backups, with centralized recovery using PGP Universal 2.0.
- PGP Desktop 9.0: six solutions in one - eliminates the costly management of point solutions and training costs of multiple applications while preserving best-of-breed data security from a trusted vendor. This new six-in-one security solution includes PGP Whole Disk encryption (laptops, desktops, removable media), PGP Virtual Disk encryption (files, folders), PGP Mail (automatic and transparent using PGP Universal technology), PGP Instant Messenger (securing AOL® Instant Messenger™ traffic), PGP Zip (file compression), and PGP Shred (permanent file deletion).
- PGP Universal 2.0 policy management for PGP Desktop 9.0 - provides a complete solution that scales from individuals to enterprises, lowering costs while increasing security. PGP Universal 2.0 now manages central security policies, key management, and keyserver functions for all PGP Desktop 9.0 clients.
- Automatic, granular, security policy- based enforcement - lets administrators set policy based on recipients once, and then automatically encrypt and decrypt without requiring any user action. PGP Desktop 9.0 now incorporates PGP Universal's policy-based email encryption technology.
- Broad protocol support - leverages existing investments and integrates with installed security solutions. PGP Universal 2.0 and PGP Desktop 9.0 support all major certificate and message formats, including X.509, OpenPGP, and S/MIME.
- Integration with compliance partners - enables email and IT security managers to comply with regulatory and partner requirements to secure confidential email and attachments. Gateway email content and compliance filters can now trap policy-restricted messages and hand them off to PGP Universal for secure delivery.
- New PGP Global Directory service - provides a global solution that gives PGP users a trusted, validated, and automatic way to share and retrieve public keys.
- New PGP Command Line 9. 0 - secures automated server-to-server, batch file transfer, and FTP so bulk data is encrypted and safe. Uses the same key infrastructure as other PGP products and supports major server platforms.
- PGP Desktop 9.0 language support - new PGP products have been designed for language localization. PGP Desktop 9.0 is available immediately in English, with German and Japanese versions available soon.
